Inspiring People in Law: Series 1 of 2023

In our first legal series of 2023 we are delighted to bring together three voices from the Irish legal scene and one from the UK bar.  We discuss the challenge of employment law and its evolution, how to build a branch office of a law firm from scratch through focusing on values, the benefits of professional sport and legal practice and the burgeoning and fast-paced development of the field of Sports law.
 

Trailer Series 1 2023: Brains, Breadth and Heart – Inspiring People in Medicine and Science

In Series 2 of our Inspiring People in Medicine and Science we continue to source inspiring voices and to ventilate topics relevant to us, our loved ones and the societies we live in.  With topics as wide ranging as development aid, mental health, Femhealth and value – we dig deep into what these areas mean, why the conventional wisdom is not always “wise” and hear about exciting new frontiers.  We are releasing all four of these episodes this week so that you can compare and contrast the experiences of these doctors and medical professionals and that have broken the mould and are pushing for change.

Professor Brian Devitt is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon, Professor of Orthopaedics and Surgical Biomechanics at Dublin City University.  He studied medicine at University College Dublin and has a particular focus on the knee. He is also my brother and given that he has spent that last 8 years in Melbourne, Australia and we have only seen eachother a handful of times in this period, I am excited to sit down with him and touch base on his medical career and outlook.

We are delighted to bring you our 2022 Inspiring People in Law series in which we feature eight inspiring lawyers from around the globe.  We examine what it is to be an effective lawyer, the importance of networks, of empathy, and sometimes the lack of importance of a standard path or trajectory. We listen to guests who have taken a path less travelled, sometimes overcoming bias, prejudice and disability to do so.  We explore areas as diverse as digital justice, the intersection of environmental law and human rights, the advances in international arbitration and moving from a legal to a corporate role.

Ozzie Gromada Meza: Finding Talent; Inspiring Change

Ozzie Gromada Meza is Director of Membership and Talent Intelligence at the Latino Corporate Directors Association and has spent 11 + years in the executive recruiting space. He is an advocate for LGBT and Latino causes, and is currently based in Reno, Nevada, and holds a number of committee and volunteer roles.

A poignant reminder of the intersectionality we all live with, how sometimes inclusion at work can be less complicated than inclusion at home as well as a thoughtful discussion on Latino and also LGBT representation at the highest levels.

Yvonne Bajela – Inspiring and Innovating through Impact

Yvonne Bajela is an investor in early stage companies at Impact X Capital, which invests in start-ups across Europe, the Middle East and Africa. She has worked across the globe in investment banking, corporate venture capital and in academia, and is a frequent speaker on the topics of entrepreneurship and female empowerment. She was listed as a member of the Forbes 30 Under 30.

A discussion of this investor’s early interest in investing, risk-taking and how she learned the ropes of venture investing.

As we get ready to celebrate International Women’s Day, we are thrilled to have snatched some time with the legendary Laura Langton of J M Finn, who in January completed the World’s Toughest Row with her team The Ace of Blades.  The team rowed over 3000 miles across the Atlantic in 47 days and their journey was brilliantly captured by their social media team on Linked IN and their Ace of Blades profile page. https://www.linkedin.com/company/team-ace-of-blades/ The team raised over £80,000 for charity.
