Dennis Archer – Leadership, Service and a Powerful Legacy

Dennis Archer has had a legendary career, as a lawyer, then as a judge on the Michigan Supreme Court and as mayor of Detroit from 1994 – 2001, and he was the first black head of the ABA. He is currently Chairman Emeritus at Dickinson Wright, a Detroit law firm, in addition to multiple Committee and Board Roles.

A highlight reel of an extraordinary career, Dennis Archer has worn many hats and is deeply committed to making the law a more diverse and equitable place for the next generation.

Bola Tobun – Using Science to Drive ESG Leadership

Bola Tobun is Investments and Treasury Manager at the London Borough of Enfield. She is a frequent participant on the local government conference circuit, which is where we met, and she has a long history of experience in pension fund roles across local government and pensions administration businesses.

A discussion of a journey from chemical engineering to finance and how this led to finance and a particular passion for and knowledge of ESG.

Kirk Sims – Diverse Portfolios, and a side of Jazz

Kirk Sims is a Senior Investment Manager and Head of the Emerging Manager Program at the Teachers Retirement System of Texas, a public pension plan with over $150 bn in assets under management. He previously worked at the Teachers Retirement System of Illinois, where he spent close to 7 years, and where he had oversight of the $7 bn minority investment program and the $750 m emerging manager program. Prior to that he held a variety of financial services roles.

A delightful canter through an inspiring HBCU education, a lifelong passion for jazz and a role at the helm of an emerging manager program that is one of the most prominent in the USA.

212. Caroline Lovelace of Preserver Partners: Learning to Take Risk and Preparing for Plan B

Caroline Lovelace is Founding Partner at Rose Hill Park Alternative Asset Managers, as well as Preserver Partners as CIO and Co-Portfolio Manager. Preserver is diverse-owned and Memphis-based. It runs a multi-strategy fund that invests through external managers. She has had an extensive career in researching and investing in hedge funds and in promoting emerging private equity and hedge fund investment programs.

Howard Fischer was the original founder of Basso Capital hedge fund and the co-founder of the Gratitude Railroad initiative in 2013. He is now the Chairman Emeritus of Basso Capital and “Chief Evangelist” at The Gratitude Railroad. The Gratitude Railroad is an initiative that unites 9 “tracks” or different concepts using capitalism to solve a social or environmental problem.
