Speaker A: As we take a short break here at 50 Faces Productions to get ready for Series 5 of 2023, we wanted to bring you a few short nuggets from a fireball of a podcast with the founder, entrepreneur, and podcast host Anthony Amunategui that we are releasing over on our Founders and VCs channel. Having founded a successful business outsourcing group, CDO Group, Anthony stepped back from the day-to-day and has launched the Future Factory podcast. Tune in to hear from him about the upbringing that drove him.
Anthony Amunategui: I remember kids making fun of me for having holes in my pants and patches, and I remember the feeling of, I’ll show them, right? And I will tell you that if you really boil down to what the driver is, some of that’s showing them, right? Some of that’s getting up every morning going, I’ll show you. And, you know, sometimes that’s a gift, right?
Speaker A: He learned to use language in making sales, which created a vision to build a relationship and make a sale.
Anthony Amunategui: And I worked for this old man who taught me how to get on the phone and call 300 people a day. Like, I would start at 7 AM calling the East Coast, and I would end at 7 PM, maybe later some nights, on the West Coast. And he told me never to put the phone down, keep it on your ear, just push a button and keep calling. I’ll bring you lunch. And it was relentless behavior, right? He would just teach you, you’re not going to make it unless you’re just relentless about it. He taught me I could talk to people and they weren’t going to bite my face off. He taught me that you could create an image by the words you used. You, you could create trust and behavior. And there was some gift in having someone teach you that the language that you use and the way that you speak to people really creates the relationship.
Speaker A: Hear how he learned to conquer the naysayers and the negative voice in his head.
Anthony Amunategui: I’ve named the voice in my head, right? There’s that voice that tells you, oh no, this business is terrible. I can’t, I can’t take it anymore. And if I get one more no, I can’t take it. That’s it. I’m done. This is terrible, right? That one that makes the phone weigh 300 pounds. That, you know, that voice, right? For me, I’ve named him, right? The name I’ve given is Fred, right? Fred in my head that makes that phone 300 pounds, right? He just says the most negative things to you. Look, don’t pick up the phone. You don’t know what you’re doing. You’re full, right? All those self-doubting stuff that happens. But as you start to work through that and realize picking up that phone, every time I pick it up there’s an opportunity.
Speaker A: And he shares topics from his leadership podcast that unites great leaders.
Anthony Amunategui: The greatest leaders do more work on themselves than they do on their companies. My judgment are, are the biggest leaders that I’ve, I’ve worked with are all doing personal development stuff, right? We talk about creative skills If there’s an entrepreneur that’s out there listening to this podcast right now and you’re sitting at your desk and not knowing what to do today, right? Looking at, you know, your desk, you’re looking at your phone, not sure how to generate business or how to get revenue, or you’re just, you’re freaking out because you’re not making any money yet. You gotta start looking at the self.
Speaker A: So that’s all from rural Michigan where you might even hear the background birdsong. We look forward to seeing you soon on Series 5.
